Optics

There is a fine line between fearless and stupid... and it's often a bit blurry.  And while every Drengr lives with nothing to hide, nothing to prove and nothing to fear, it's often advisable to put some distance between you and anything that can kill you like a bug - or even kill you like a human.  Distance is your friend and the ability to kill whatever is trying to kill you at a distance is priceless.  

With the invention of gunpowder by our ancestor, Thorfinn Skull-splitter, we now have the ability to defeat an adversary from a distance.  But why be satisfied with a few yards when you can extend that distance to 50 or 100 yards - or many more - with an optical device that was a spin-off of a Viking navigational instrument.  Lief Erikson had developed an optical instrument that allowed him to see a hazy coast far to the west of Iceland... but I digress!
